Courses structure

The course aims to teach students not only the technical theory of chasing and repoussé, but the practical capacity to model metal.
Hands-on practice is preceded by a brief lesson about the materials, instruments and drawing techniques.
Afterwards, students will put their new knowledge to work to execute a work independently under the supervision of the instructor.
The course has no specific prerequisites.

Course contents:

  • Theoretical introduction
  • Description of materials and tools
  • Introduction to techniques and drawing on plate
  • Execution of independent project

TOOLS AND MATERIALS

The following materials constitute the complete WORK KIT for each student provided by the Maestro.
  • Complete set of 22 chasing tools
  • Pitch Board or Bowl 20cmX20cm(I use a Florentine recipe, but any pitch may be used in this process)
  • Chasing hammer (32mm diameter)
  • A knife to manage the tar
  • Scissors
  • Pliers
  • Apron
  • Gloves
  • Tape
  • FOLDER: (Tracing paper, drawing paper, carbon/transfer paper (or use a laser jet printer and acetone to achieve the same result)
  • Pencil
  • Ball-point pen
  • Permanent marker
  • Scotch brite
The schools must provide the following for the Chasing and Repoussé course:
  • Sheet metal (copper, silver, gold, argentium and brass, 0.4 or 0.5mm) WIRE 1.5mm
  • Soldering station
  • Fire bricks
  • Torch
  • Open area
  • Work bench
